Lineworker Appreciation Month – April 2021

Monthly Manager's Message Header - Powerlines against a sunset

Dear Members,

If you were asked to associate a person with Benton REA, I bet you would picture a lineworker. Some of the most visible employees of the co-op, lineworkers work tirelessly to ensure that you—our members—receive uninterrupted power 24/7.

Lineworker is listed as one of the 10 most dangerous jobs in the U.S. This is understandable. Lineworkers perform detailed tasks near high-voltage power lines. Regardless of the time of day, they brave stormy weather, the cold, the heat and other challenging conditions—often climbing 40 feet in the air, carrying heavy equipment—to get the job done.

Being a lineworker takes years of specialized training, ongoing education, dedication and a sense of service and commitment. How else can you explain the willingness to leave the comfort of home to tackle a challenging job in difficult conditions? Their dedication and sense of service to the community truly sets lineworkers apart. That’s why we set aside the month of April to celebrate and recognize the men and women who work around the clock to keep the lights on.

While lineworkers are the most visible employees at Benton REA, there is a team of highly skilled professionals working behind the scenes.

Engineers provide technical expertise and guidance on the infrastructure side. Member service representatives are standing by to take your calls. Our information technology experts monitor our system to safeguard sensitive data and ensure that our technology and communications systems are available when needed. Our financial personnel work hard to ensure adequate internal accounting controls are in place to protect the co-op’s assets and produce accurate and timely financial reports. These are just a few of the folks who work together so we can deliver the service and reliability you expect and deserve. Without them, our lineworkers wouldn’t be able to bring the light to our community.

Our dedicated and beloved lineworkers deserve all the appreciation and accolades that come their way. Any time you see a lineworker, I hope you’ll join me in thanking them for their exceptional service and dedication to working safely, so that we can all enjoy the benefits of safe and reliable electric service!

Cooperatively,
